Meet the Team

  • Kailan Miner

    OWNER/TEACHER

Hi there! I’m so excited to share a bit about myself with you. I’ve been lucky enough to work in all sorts of childcare settings, from nannying to preschools and with older kids. My time working with kids, especially in the behavioral field with children from age 2 up to young adults with special needs, has really shaped my approach. Focusing on essential skills through play-based learning led me to pursue my dream of opening my own in-home childcare.

Now, I’m thrilled to welcome kids of all abilities into our space, where we believe that learning through play and art exploration is the best way to grow.

A little more about me: I graduated from CSU East Bay with a degree in human development, focusing on early childhood, and a minor in sociology. I’m also a mom of two awesome kids and the proud owner of Cleo, our class pet parrot! When I’m not working, I love going for walks, watching movies, and getting creative with different projects. I’m really looking forward to getting to know you and your child!

  • Shay Abaunza

    LEAD TEACHER

With several years of experience in childcare, my journey began as a family nanny before I enrolled at Bow Valley College in Canada, where I took on a leadership role in their lab program and earned a diploma in Early Learning and Childcare. This experience led me to guide a daycare and preschool team as a lead educator, where I developed a passion for creating nurturing, play-based learning environments that allow children to explore, grow, and thrive. I am particularly interested in provocations and learning through play, and I hope to one day open my own center and I'm committed to continually expanding my knowledge of child development in order to reach my goal. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking with my husband and our dog Sadie, traveling (Japan has been a favorite destination ours!), indulging in great food, unwinding with video games, and creating digital art. I’m excited to share my love of learning and play with your little ones!

  • Livia Madrid

    ASSISTANT TEACHER

I am a passionate childcare provider who has various experiences working with and caring for children. I first began as an after-school care employee for children in grades K-8. In addition to teaching at The Playhouse, I provide early childhood education support at Assumption School as an instructional teacher’s assistant for second grade. When I am not working with children, I am attending college, studying to receive my associate’s degree in psychology. I have a strong passion for loving, nurturing, and caring for children, and I believe I demonstrate that passion in the care I provide for children of all ages.

Are you interested in becoming a teacher here at The Playhouse Family Childcare?
